Last week, government officials, designers, and contractors came together on a chilly morning in Annapolis to celebrate the beginning of construction for the new Maryland Supreme Court building. Chris, Nicole and Melissa, from Hope Furrer Associates, were in attendance to join in the air of excitement and anticipation for the plans we worked on for years to become a reality that will be shared with generations to come. The new $147 million building will replace the existing building with state-of-the-art facilities, a beautiful five-story atrium, and a stately colonnade along the exterior. It includes playful motifs that are near and dear to the hearts of Marylanders, such as crabs and black-eyed Susans. Meanwhile, it incorporates the stately marble columns from the original 1902 courthouse and prominently features the Maryland state flag throughout the building. The fully electric building, which is targeted to achieve LEED Silver certification, is a symbol for justice and fairness in the state of Maryland for generations to come. HFA loves pushing our own structural engineering boundaries to deliver a project that we, and all Marylanders, can be truly proud to call our own.
