Melissa A. Harmon, PE, LEED AP BD+C
PrincipalMelissa brings extensive structural design experience across a wide range of building types and construction materials. Her portfolio includes higher education academic buildings, housing, retail, detention facilities, courtrooms, wastewater facilities, parking structures, office buildings, and mixed-use developments. She is passionate about delivering elegant, efficient structural designs that support each project’s unique architectural vision while advancing sustainable building goals. As a LEED AP BD+C, Melissa integrates sustainability principles into her structural approach, with particular attention to material efficiency, constructability, and long-term building performance. Her technical expertise includes mass timber, post-tensioned and conventional concrete, composite steel, custom steel trusses, masonry, light-gauge framing, and both shallow and deep foundation systems. In addition to new construction, Melissa particularly enjoys the unique challenges of existing building renovations and additions, where strategic structural interventions can extend building life, reduce embodied carbon, and support sustainable project outcomes. She played a critical role in the implementation of BIM software at HFA and strongly believes BIM enhances team communication, coordination, and collaboration throughout the design process. As a Principal, Melissa manages the firms Towson office, providing quality assurance of construction documents.
