St. John’s Archeological Site Exhibit

The newest addition to Historic St. Mary’s City is the St. John’s Site Museum, this archaeological site is surrounded by a modern museum with exhibits covering subjects ranging from the site’s history to the biographies of the residents, traditional agriculture, ideas of democracy and, first and foremost, the archaeological efforts it took to unearth more than a million artifacts, some of which fill the museum’s various displays. The museum preserves the archeological remains and interprets the history of this 17th century house occupied from 1638 to 1710.  Due to the existing archeology, the structure’s configuration and foundation locations were critical to the preservation of the remains.
