University of Maryland South Campus Commons

South Campus Commons, the newest residential community at the University of Maryland in College Park, was developed through a public-private partnership (P3) between Capstone Development and the University of Maryland. The $182M, 483,000 sf Commons, which consist of one mid-rise and six low-rise residential buildings, houses 2,200 students in more than 500 apartments, and includes seminar and conference rooms, faculty offices, student lounges and computer centers.  Opening in 2010, Building 7 is the University’s first LEED Certified student housing facility, and the first campus building to achieve LEED Gold Certification. The new student housing facilities integrate the University of Maryland’s new living-learning program, “Beyond the Classroom”, aiming to serve students enrolled in the university’s highly regarded honors program.
