The Virginia Tech community, along with the design and construction teams celebrated a milestone on June 10th. The concrete frame was set to be topped out indicating the completion of the superstructure. In lieu of steel beam, a concrete bucket was adorned with an evergreen tree and flown to the top. Setting an evergreen at the highest point of new construction is an ancient Scandanvian tradition. It is performed to celebrate raising the final structural beam, bringing good luck to the building, and wishing prosperity for its future occupants. All team members, including Tom, were invited to sign a column to commerate the achievement.
