Clark Construction held a Topping Out Celebration on December 3 to mark the end of major concrete operations for the BSU Center of Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Nursing. The celebration was a “thank you” to the laborers, the University, Subcontractors and the Design Team for a job well done getting to this major milestone on time. Although the temperature was a bit chilly, everyone was able to warm up on the excellent Barbeque.
Once completed, the 150,000 square foot Center for Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Nursing will be a state of the art Laboratory and Classroom facility. The facility will house a mix of research and classroom laboratories, nursing simulation labs, and faculty offices. The concrete structure has two distinct “bars”, one for classrooms and one for labs. Due to the different uses and vibration requirements, the bars have two distinct structural systems, with the classroom bar utilizing post-tensioned beams and conventional one-way slab construction and the lab bar composed of a conventional two-way flat slab system with drop panels. The Center, designed by Perkins+Will, is scheduled for completion in late 2017.
