Stephanie Slocum was pleased to represent Hope Furrer Associates in attendance at MCCEI’s BIM Forum at Towson University. The BIM Forum brought together Owners, Contractors, and A/E professionals to learn how the design and construction industry is adapting to BIM. Interesting tidbits shared at the BIM Forum included the business costs of poorly coordinated documents. For example, did you know that the average RFI number per project is 796 and the average cost to review the RFI’s is $1,080 per RFI (source: Impact and Control of RFI’s on Construction Projects”, Navigant Construction Forum”, April 2013)? Panelists also discussed the need to bring sub-contractors into the virtual and mobile world and where to obtain career and BIM training in Maryland. Stephanie was particularly interested in the discussion of emerging trends, specifically the use of drones, robots, and 3D construction printing robotics. The bridge building robot video was also shared at https://youtu.be/3bRxW5g7XjM. Stephanie also appreciated the opportunity to converse with Max and John of Cam Construction, the contractors working on our $53 million Youth Detention Center project which is currently under construction.
