Each year, the Student Society of Architectural Engineers hosts an Options Social, which provides information to 3rd year (along with 2nd year and even a couple 1st year) students as they prepare to select which AE option they want to specialize in. After 3rd year, students must select between structural, mechanical, lighting/electrical and construction management. AE classes in years 4 and 5 focus on the selected option. This specialization is how the AE department at Penn State continues to produce some of the best entry level engineers compared to peer schools.
This year Tom was honored to be on the panel and share the reasons he chose to be a structural engineer. He was also able to share his experiences in the field, including a typical day as an entry level engineer and some of his favorite projects.
