HFA’s Clarion Becht Hall project is the 2016 Master Builder’s Association (MBA) award winner in the “Renovation Construction Under $10 million” category. HFA was proud to attend the awards ceremony this evening at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, PA.
We commend the contractor on the project, UHL Construction Company, for their work which resulted in the much-deserved award. UHL exceeded our expectations for delivery on the structural portions of this project, working in collaboration with our team to deliver value for Clarion University.
Becht Hall is an early 20th century four story, 60,000 s.f. dormitory building, which was converted into a state of the art student success center. The interior existing wood, timber, and bearing wall construction was entirely demolished. The structure was replaced with new interior structure suitable for the new loads required for the student center. The historical exterior façade and roof was maintained throughout construction. Project challenges included a required multi-prime delivery method, lack of existing building drawings, and unusual existing conditions. UHL Construction, Owner’s representative Gilbane, and architect PWWG collaborated with Hope Furrer Associates to create an entirely unique student center.
See our previous Clarion blog for additional information on this structurally complex project, completed in 2015.
